PEC Zwolle won the relegation cracker in the Eredivisie from Fortuna Sittard on Sunday evening. Oussama Darfalou gave the team of trainer Schreuder three very important points fifteen minutes before the end: 0-1. PEC skips over Fortuna through the victory. The visitors take sixteenth place with 20 points from 25 matches, while the Fortunezen are stuck on 19 points.

Fortuna trainer Sjors Ultee had to compete against PEC without his club top scorer Mats Seuntjens. The striker dropped out with an injury just before the basement squatter and was replaced by Paul Gladon, who formed a vanguard with Charlison Benschop. The first half between the current number seventeen and sixteen was mainly dominated by battle. The duels were mainly fought in midfield, so that there was little to enjoy for the spectators in Sittard.

Halfway through the first act, the visitors finally noticed the first danger of the game. Shots from Mees de Wit and Daishawn Redan, however, smothered in a forest of Fortunezen. The lack of Seuntjens made itself felt by the home team and his replacement Gladon left on the stroke of half to prove his value for the Limburgers. The striker was served with a custom cross by Dimitrios Siovas, but then headed straight into the hands of Kostas Lamprou from close range.

PEC was much better in the second half. It resulted, among other things, in a header opportunity for Darfalou, who headed just past. On the other hand, Charlison Benschop thought to break the spell. The party for Ultee’s team was canceled after the intervention of the VAR due to offside earlier in the attack. Via a triple substitution – Kenneth Paal, Sai van Wermeskerken and Gervane Kastaneer came in – it was PEC that won the game in the final phase.

Goalkeeper Yannick van Osch first had an answer to two shots by Kastaneer, but was virtually without a chance a minute later. The lead for the visitors was a fact, when Daishawn Redan passed the ball from the turn from the back line, after which Darfalou headed the 0-1 against the ropes. Fortuna tried to get a point out of the fire via a final offensive, but the home team was unable to make a fist in attacking terms, so that PEC took three very important points to Zwolle.
