Paris Saint-Germain has made a bid of 38 million euros to take over the current stadium Parc des Princes from the municipality of Paris. Anne Hidalgo, the mayor of Paris, revealed this in conversation with the French television channel TF1. “I believe the word ‘ridiculous’ is appropriate for such an offer,” she then lashed out at the club.

PSG would like to own its own stadium, because the club believes it is an important factor to continue to compete with other top European clubs. In addition, the Ligue 1 leader can expand the stadium and earn more money if it is owned by the club. PSG is therefore trying to reach an agreement with the municipality of Paris, but that has been anything but successful for the time being.

“There are prices that must correspond to the value of an object,” Hidalgo said TF1. “If the club proposes a bid of 38 million euros at the end of a long process… I believe the word ‘ridiculous’ is appropriate for such an offer.” She therefore does not think that a deal about the Parc des Princes will be made. “We no longer see any possibility for that. We also have to stop discussing, because we will not reach an agreement anyway.”

In addition to taking over the Parc des Princes, PSG is also looking at other options. For example, it is one of the options to build a stadium itself, and the club is thinking of taking over the Stade de France. That stadium is currently still owned by the French state and is best known as the home of the French national team.
