Chelsea failed to beat number eighteen Burnley at home on Saturday: 2-2. The Londoners played most of the match against ten men, but that was not enough to win. Standout Cole Palmer handled the entire production of Chelsea. Burnley came back twice and was even close to a very important victory in the final phase.

Chelsea thought they would take the lead after twenty minutes of play at Stamford Bridge. However, following a VAR check, defender Axel Disasi's goal was canceled for offside. In the period that followed, Burnley, fighting relegation, missed three good opportunities to open the score in West London.

It cost the formation of manager Vincent Kompany dearly. Shortly before half-time, Lorenz Assignon scored a penalty and the French right back received his second yellow card of the afternoon. Burnley therefore had to continue with ten men and Palmer took advantage of the penalty: 1-0 for Chelsea.

The 21-year-old Palmer is the youngest Chelsea player ever to reach the mark of 20 goals and assists (12 to 8) in his debut season. Jimmy Hasselbaink (32), Eden Hazard (20) Diego Costa (23) and Cesc Fàbregas (21) preceded the young Englishman in being involved in at least 20 Chelsea goals in their first year for the London club.

Chelsea's lead did not last long. Josh Cullen shot into the bottom right corner two minutes after the restart from outside the box: 1-1. Manager Mauricio Pochettino intervened and sent Noni Madueke on after an hour of play, replacing Conor Gallagher. Later, Raheem Sterling also joined the line the Blues.

The same Sterling enabled Palmer with a nice pass to restore Chelsea's lead in the 77th minute: 2-1. However, the lead disappeared again like snow in the sun. Dara O'Shea headed home from a corner, although goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic did not look good with the centre-back's effort.

In the final phase, Burnley's ten team went all out for the win and the visitors were unlucky when Jay Rodriguez headed hard against the crossbar from a corner. The substitute then shot wide on the rebound. At the other end, Sterling was stopped by Burnley goalkeeper Arijanet Muric as he appeared in front of goal.
