Wesley Hoedt is no longer in action for Lazio. The 27-year-old defender, who is hired by the Italian club from Southampton, has been removed from the player list for the remainder of the Serie A. With that, the adventure of Hoedt in the capital of Italy seems to be over.

The decision to remove Hoedt from the player list is related to the return of Luiz Felipe. The Brazilian defender has recovered from a serious ankle injury that kept him aside since the end of January. Lazio can only give up 25 players to participate in the competition and has now removed Hoedt. That will come as a surprise to the six-time the Dutch-international, because he played the entire game against Genoa (4-3 win) on Sunday.

Hoedt is under contract with Southampton, but has not been eligible for playing minutes in the first team for years. In October, the basket owner returned to Lazio on a rental basis, where he already had two successful seasons since 2015. Hoedt started the season as a regular base player, but remained almost structurally on the bench for the last two months. In total he played 26 official games this season, in which he did not score.

Lazio has the option to take over Hoedt for an unknown amount at the end of the season, but will probably not use it. The Dutchman is stuck at Southampton until mid-2022. The English, who paid 16 million euros for him to Lazio in 2017, will want to sell him next summer to keep a transfer fee.
