Marc Overmars not only sent pictures of his genitals, but regularly fired a ‘one-sided app bombardment’ on female Ajax employees, the report said. General Newspaper based on conversations with those directly involved. Overmars also sent unsolicited ‘explicit internet videos’.

Overmars didn’t specifically target any women, but seemed to spread his odds by casting as many rods as possible. The director who left Ajax sought contact with office staff, the media department and the women’s football department of the club. Sometimes he also sent messages to women ‘outside Ajax’, which is not specified. The common denominator in the contact was the total lack of a reason: Out of nowhere, Overmars was able to send a message that was experienced as undesirable.

Women who ignored Overmars’ text messages could often count on more messages: described by the newspaper as a ‘one-sided text message bombardment’. Overmars was known within the club as a ‘weird bird’: a man who shunned everyday conversations with colleagues and seemed to prefer to send a text message. According to the women, his ‘social incompetence’ was reflected in the messages he sent. “The apps also harbored a kind of compulsion, unworldliness and an inescapable urge for attention,” the newspaper says.

In the Ajax press statement, Overmars said he did not realize he had crossed borders until he was pointed out last week. The women involved come up with a different interpretation: Overmars thought he was untouchable and ignored warnings about his behavior, which he received ‘often enough’. Despite these direct and indirect warnings, the director continued to act stubbornly.
