Jenson Seelt makes the switch to Sunderland, the English club and PSV have announced through the official channels. The twenty-year-old defender will travel to northern England this week to complete his transfer. Only a medical examination can prevent the transfer from Seelt to the Stadium of Light. The right-footed Edenaar says goodbye to PSV after six years, which reportedly receives two million euros for his services.

Seelt made his debut for PSV in May 2022, during a game against PEC Zwolle (1-2 win). Subsequently, the center defender never came into action again in the Eindhoven main force. Seelt played his matches in the past two seasons mainly in Jong PSV. In total, the mandekker came into action 63 times for the reserves team. In those matches he scored seven goals and two assists. Last month Seet managed to seize the Premier League International Cup with Jong PSV. In the final, the Brabant club was 1-3 too strong for London’s Crystal Palace.

The Gelderlander defender had actually wanted to make the move to England in the winter, but PSV did not come out with Burnley then. Seelt spoke in January about the failed deal with The Gelderlander. “PSV and Burnley have had many talks, but in the end the clubs did not come to an agreement. It doesn’t seem to be getting around in the last days of the transfer window.” At the time, the people of Eindhoven could receive 2.2 million euros including bonuses. Sunderland is now reportedly transferring two million euros for Seelt, who had a contract until mid-2024 at the Philips Stadium.

Seelt becomes the ninth Dutchman to play for Sunderland. Loek Ursem, Boudewijn Zenden, Edwin Zoetebier, Patrick van Aanholt, Raimond van der Gouw, Jeremain Lens, Robbin Ruiter and Glenn Loovens preceded him. With Dick Advocaat the Black Cats in 2015 a Dutch trainer was briefly at the helm. Last season, Sunderland finished in sixth place in the Championship, putting the club in the play-offs for promotion. In the semi-final, however, Luton Town were too strong over two games (3–2 on aggregate).
