Napoli achieved a victory in the Serie A on Saturday afternoon with pain and difficulty. The team of coach Luciano Spalletti cleared a 0-1 deficit against Udinese and won 2-1. Victor Osimhen once again showed his class and, just like last week against Hellas Verona, took both hits. The Nigerian striker also saw two goals disallowed. The victory in points equals Napoli with league-leader AC Milan, which will visit Cagliari later in the evening.
Napoli was warned in advance, as it already lost expensive points at home earlier this season against low-flyers Empoli (0-1) and Spezia (0-1). Spalletti’s team also fell behind against Udinese. After a fairly even initial phase, Gerard Deulofeu broke the spell halfway through the first half. The former Barcelona striker was served on the edge of the penalty area by Roberto Pereyra and didn’t take much time to find the left corner for the opening goal: 0-1. Napoli countered that with a good opportunity for Fabián Ruiz in the first half.
The midfielder thought he could score on a pass from André-Frank Zambo Anguissa, but had to watch as goalkeeper Marco Silvestri just got a foot against it. Mário Rui was also close to the equalizer. His shot was barely blocked. The second company provided significantly more spectacle, partly due to the introduction of Dries Mertens. The little Belgian saw how Lorenzo Insigne quickly fired on Udinese’s goal with a free kick that went right over. Barely five minutes later, Osimhen was accurate.

The striker was in the right place to head a free kick from Rui behind Silvestri. After Mertens then shot just over and Insigne past, Osimhen gave Napoli the lead with his second of the afternoon. The preparatory work this time came from Giovanni Di Lorenzo, who gave the attacker an unmissable opportunity from close range for the 2-1. Udinese did very little in the second half and ended the game with one man less. In the final phase, Pablo Marí hit the chest of substitute Piotr Zielinski with a raised leg, after which referee Francesco Fourneau immediately drew a red card.
