Peter Bosz must seriously fear for his job as a trainer at Olympique Lyon. Last week, the board of the club reported that results had to be achieved quickly, but that failed miserably on Sunday evening on a visit to RC Lens: 1-0. The home team, the number four in Ligue 1, only managed to beat the outstanding keeper Anthony Lopes deep in the second half and did so via Florian Sotoca from the penalty spot.

After three consecutive defeats, it was important for Bosz and Lyon to add another three-pointer to the total as quickly as possible. With the away game at Lens, known in France as l’Enfer du Nord’, however, was not the easiest match on the program and it showed. The fanatic crowd in the Stade Félix Bollaert chased their boys, of which former Vitesse striker Loïs Openda was a part, forward and LOL was pushed back. Nicolás Tagliafico, the former Ajax player, also picked up a card before half time.

The second half was full of opportunities for Lens. Lopes, however, kept Lyon’s goal dry with some tricks and did not seem right for the hosts’ attackers. Ten minutes before the end, however, the Portuguese had to capitulate. Lens was awarded a penalty after a handball from defender Thiago Mendes and Sotoca remained cool from eleven meters: 1-0. In the final phase, Bosz’s men tried to save a point, but that did not work and so the Dutch coach has to fear for his job.

Bosz started the new season well with Lyon with four wins and one draw in the first five games, but the pressure now seems to be too much for him after four defeats in a row. Lyon’s goal this season is to reach the top three, but after the new sof it is only in seventh place. The ex-trainer of Ajax, who still has a contract until the end of the season, has been standing for the group at Lyon since the end of May last year.
