The Public Prosecution Service demands 24 months in prison against the driver of the robbers of René van der Gijp. At the end of April, the former football player and football analyst was attacked when he arrived at his home in the evening. 21-year-old Ryan van V. was on trial on Thursday for complicity in the attempted robbery of Van der Gijp and the sneaking of a house a month later. Van V. has stated to the judges that he regrets his actions.

The suspect has indicated that he did not know what the men he was transporting were going to do. He was aware that it would be a theft, so reports RTL News. When Van der Gijp arrived at his house around 10.30 pm on the evening in question, three men in white Anonymous masks hit the car windows with hammers. Van der Gijp was unharmed because the perpetrators could not hit through the safety glass.

The public prosecutor spoke on Thursday of “serious criminal offenses” and said that the suspect has not considered the consequences. “Declarer Van der Gijp stated that the robbers carried on like savages, which frightened him,” said the officer. “The suspect was only concerned with his own gain.” For a robbery of a house in Krimpen aan de IJssel, the Public Prosecution Service demands a cell charge of 24 months, 4 months of which are conditional with deduction of pre-trial detention.

“I should never have done this, I think”, Van V. is quoted by it Algemeen Dagblad. “I was approached on the street. They came to me in the center of Ridderkerk and asked if I wanted to drive them for a theft. ” Because he needed money, Van V. participated. “I would get ten or twenty percent of the loot. And I’m not a sweetheart. I don’t flinch so quickly. So I just did it. ” The suspect said he had not known in advance that it was a robbery on Van der Gijp.
