Xherdan Shaqiri can officially call himself a player of Olympique Lyon. The French top club announces that it will take over the 29-year-old Swiss from Liverpool for a basic amount of six million euros. On top of that, an amount of no less than five million euros can be added in bonuses. Shaqiri has signed for three seasons in France.

Weeks of negotiations preceded the transfer from Shaqiri to Lyon. Two weeks ago, Gianluca Di Marzio announced that LOL did not want to go beyond six million euros, while Liverpool demanded a flat fee of eight million euros. With a hefty amount of bonuses, both clubs eventually gave in to the transfer of Shaqiri.

Shaqiri already indicated at the end of July that he would like to leave Liverpool and was linked to AS Roma and Napoli, among others. The attacking midfielder was killed three years ago the Reds acquired from Stoke City, where he had impressed for three seasons. At Liverpool, Shaqiri never managed to become an undisputed starting player. He eventually made 63 appearances for the club, scoring 8 goals and providing 9 assists.

For Peter Bosz, Shaqiri will come as a welcome reinforcement. The trainer started his job at Lyon poorly and only has two points after three competition matches. Shaqiri is Lyon’s first signing this summer for which a transfer fee will be paid, after the club previously signed left-back Henrique (Vasco da Gama) and center defender Damien Da Silva (Stade Rennes) on a free transfer. Emerson Palmieri was also hired from Chelsea.
