Jean-Pierre Rivère, the president of OGC Nice, has given a brief response to the situation surrounding midfielder Alexis Beka Beka. The 22-year-old midfielder threatened to jump off a 100-meter high viaduct on Friday afternoon, but was rescued by emergency workers and is now out of danger. Nice is shocked by the event, but does not seem to want to release too many details about Beka Beka.

Rivère responds to the situation in a short statement on the club website. “We are mainly happy that it all turned out well for Alexis. He has been taken care of. We will continue to respect medical confidentiality and we ask everyone to do the same and respect their privacy. We support him, like the entire club does.” Nice previously canceled all press activities scheduled for Friday. The current number two in Ligue 1 will be back in action on Sunday against Stade Brest. Nice’s selection was on the training field on Friday, while the management was in crisis discussions.

On Friday, around noon, the worrying news about Beka Beka came through from France. The midfielder from Paris threatened to end his life, probably due to problems in his relationship, by jumping from a towering viaduct near the Nice stadium. After negotiations with the police, fire brigade and a psychologist from the club, Beka Beka was eventually safely removed from the viaduct. That news caused much relief in France.

It is unknown how long the midfielder had been struggling with suicidal thoughts. Beka Beka was ‘just’ on the bench last week during the away match against AS Monaco (0-1). le Gym, but has not yet received any playing minutes under coach Francesco Farioli this season. Beka Beka was acquired by Nice from Lokomotiv Moscow last summer for 12 million euros. Since then he has made 22 official appearances for the French club, scoring once. The former youth international of lesson Bleus is still fixed in the Allianz Riviera until mid-2027.
