Rick Karsdorp does not have to fear a suspension. The AS Roma right-back lost his composure after the top match against Napoli (0-1) on Sunday when Massimiliano Irrati accidentally stood on his toes, and tried to push the referee away. Karsdorp seemed to have to take into account a hefty punishment, but Sky Italy knows that Irrati has ‘forgiven’ him. There was no entry on the official match form.

Immediately after the game in the Stadio Olimpico a remarkable situation arose. Karsdorp seemed to be presented with the red card, which, however, was intended for physical trainer Stefano Rapetti. When Karsdorp then wanted to ask Irrati something, he accidentally stepped on the toes of the ex-Feyenoord player. Karsdorp jumped out of his shoe and wanted to give the referee a push, but was stopped by Rapetti.

A long suspension seemed a real possibility for Karsdorp, who, if fit, is invariably a basic player under Jose Mourinho. sky know, however, that Irrati almost even apologized to the three-time the Dutch international himself. In the end Karsdorp got away unscathed, judging by the scoresheet. As a result, the back appears to be ‘normally’ available again for the game against Hellas Verona next Monday.

Karsdorp has been struggling with injuries this season, but, just like last season, is a valued force under Mourinho. Since the Portuguese’s entrance in the summer of 2021, the 27-year-old wing defender has made 58 appearances i Giallorossi.. To illustrate: With the exception of one game, that is half of the three seasons before that. Karsdorp came over from Feyenoord in July 2017 for sixteen million euros, and still has a contract in Rome until mid-2025.
