Bayern Munich took a new step towards the eleventh national championship in a row on Saturday afternoon. In its own Allianz Arena, coach Thomas Tuchel’s team was 6-0 too strong for Schalke 04. The goals were scored by Thomas Müller, Joshua Kimmich, Mathys Tel, Noussair Mazraoui and Serge Gnabry (two pieces). Leader Bayern now has four points more than number two Borussia Dortmund, which will play against Borussia Mönchengladbach later on Saturday. Despite the defeat, Schalke is still in a safe fifteenth place.

Bayern’s starting line-up contained two different players than last weekend against Werder Bremen (1-2 win). Ryan Gravenberch and Sadio Mané moved to the bench, while Thomas Müller and Leroy Sané were allowed to show it from the first minute. Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui did keep their starting place and saw that Sepp van den Berg also had a Dutchman on the field on the side of Schalke.

Bayern dominated in the first half and came close to the opening goal several times in the opening phase. For example, a low shot by Gnabry was blocked by goalkeeper Alexander Schwolow, Van den Berg was able to clear a bet by Kingsley Coman off the line and Müller also failed to get the ball past Schwolow after fifteen minutes. In the 21st minute it was still hit. Sané put the ball back and Müller placed the ball in the far corner: 1-0. Eight minutes later, Kimmich doubled the score from the penalty spot after Cédric Brunner had fouled Jamal Musiala in his own penalty area. 2-0 was also the halftime score.

Bayern continued cheerfully, because early in the second half Gnabry signed for the third goal. After a good action from João Cancelo, he got a lot of time in the enemy box to put the 3-0 on the board. That position gave Tuchel reason to make some changes and that meant that Gravenberch was also allowed to participate for another half hour. He saw that Gnabry could still benefit from an error in the back those Handsome (4-0) and that fellow substitute Mathys Tel poked the ball into the far corner after a nice action and ditto pass from Jamal Musiala. Deep in injury time, Mazraoui was allowed to make it 6-0 when he was released in front of the keeper.
