Mike Verweij does not rule out that Noussair Mazraoui will leave Ajax. In the podcast Kick-Off from The Telegraph let the journalist know that in principle the team from Amsterdam would like to continue with the 23-year-old right back, who still has an ongoing commitment until mid-2022, but ‘not for the amounts that are now on the table’. Verweij believes that due to the financial consequences of the corona crisis, Ajax is less willing to hand out ‘mega salaries’.

“Mazraoui is on his way to the exit”, Verweij acknowledges, who is asked by presenter Pim Sedee about the status of the right back. “He has the same agent as Hakim Ziyech, who was one of the big earners in Amsterdam. But the time of mega salaries is over due to corona. Of course Ajax will continue to pay a lot to some players, but in some contract negotiations it is now said: ‘Until here and no further.’ ”

“If you can’t figure it out, then selling is the best”, Verweij continues. “I think Ajax would like to come out with Mazraoui, but not for the amounts that are now on the table.” Jurriën Timber, Devyne Rensch and Sean Klaiber could also hold the right back position. According to Verweij, the latter would like to be sold by Marc Overmars, but the journalist does not expect that to happen in the short term. “It was bought in the summer of last year, so it doesn’t seem like it will be sold right away. When Mazraoui leaves, you will still have to keep Klaiber as the third backup. ”

Perr Schuurs is also reportedly one of the players who may leave next summer. “If a good price is paid for him, then he is gone”, Verweij remarks. “The same was actually true for Kjell Scherpen. In principle, they saw in the long run a player for Ajax 1. But as far as Schuurs is concerned, I would not completely give up hope ”, said the Ajax club watcher. Thursday reported The Telegraph about the fact that Brighton & Hove Albion would have reached an agreement with Ajax about the arrival of Scherpen.

In total there are seven names, not including Schuurs, that should be allowed to leave Ajax, Verweij reported earlier this week. Chances are that Nicolás Tagliafico will also leave the national champion, although that has to do with the personal ambitions of the Argentinian. In addition, the Amsterdammers would bet on the exit of Lassina Traoré, David Neres, André Onana and Zakaria Labyad.
