Since he was taken over by Ajax for 22.5 million euros from West Ham United in January, Sébastien Haller has been good for ten goals and seven assists in eighteen official games. Yet there is some criticism of the 26-year-old striker. In an interview with it Algemeen Dagblad Haller indicates that his price tag, which makes him the most expensive purchase in the club history of Ajax, irritates him.

“If I have to convince everyone, I will never be finished. Those people are always there. I don’t like that, but rather focus on people who are there to support me and the club, ”says Haller when asked if he understands the criticism. He notes that ‘the best possible and more’ is expected at Ajax. “I think for a striker this is also the most demanding club where I have played. At Ajax everything starts with the striker. I already knew the coach, I also knew what he demanded of me with and without the ball. ”

Haller is then asked if he ‘feels’ his price tag when he plays. “No, it rather irritates me. I was the record buy at more clubs. People want to see numbers, but that’s not the most important. I can’t help that. When a club gets me, I give the maximum to the people who put their trust in me. Figures don’t mean anything to me and don’t hurt me, also because they will become obsolete within a few years. ”

Haller confesses that he struggled in his early weeks, as his wife and children were still in England. He says that his children missed their father. “Then I got a call and heard them cry. They asked why I was not with them. That was quite difficult, because I spent a lot of time with them before that. Then you want to arrange it even faster, ”says Haller. He says that in his hotel room he worried a lot about all the things that had to be arranged and that had ‘inevitable’ effect on his game. His family has now been in the Netherlands for a month and a half. “I also feel more mentally free and comfortable now.”
