Ajax wants to break André Onana’s contract open until the summer of 2025, Nicolò Schira assures via social media. According to the transfer expert from Italy, the Amsterdam club is confident that an agreement on such an agreement will soon follow. The news is striking, according to Ajax The Telegraph bet on a new contract until mid-2024 and the goalkeeper preferred to sign up until the summer of 2023.

Wrote early this month The Telegraph that Ajax wanted to extend Onana’s current contract, which is now officially on the payroll until June 30, 2022, by two seasons. The goalkeeper himself leaned towards a contract until the summer of 2023. The goalkeeper actually wanted to make a step to the absolute top last summer. The closing item was reportedly allowed to leave for 25 million euros at Ajax, but no club reported with such an amount in the Johan Cruijff ArenA.

Onana was suspended for a year in early February for taking the banned drug furosemide. The Amsterdammers are challenging the doping suspension at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and the penalty may be lower. It is a difficult issue for Ajax, as the goalkeeper is allowed to negotiate with other clubs from January 1, 2022 and could walk out the door six months later.

Ajax therefore wants to insure itself prematurely of a relatively high transfer fee for Onana and that seems to be possible with a contract until mid-2024 or 2025, unless the club and player make an agreement about a transfer fee of a certain amount. Marc Overmars, director of football affairs at Ajax, acknowledged last week that both parties are in talks. “We are in talks, I hope there will be clarity soon. I expect that. That should be for several years, yes. ”
