Newcastle United will break open and extend Bruno Guimarães’ contract, transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano reported on social media on Friday morning. The Magpies will include a buyout clause of approximately one hundred million pounds, equivalent to approximately 115 million euros, in the Brazilian’s new contract.

Guimarães is currently contracted until mid-2026, but will soon extend his contract until mid-2028. According to Romano, the now 25-year-old Brazilian is ‘super happy’ with the contract extension and is in love with the northern English club. Guimarães represents according to Transfer market a value of 70 million euros. Clubs that want to take him over from Newcastle will therefore have to pay 115 million euros in the future.

Guimarães came over from Olympique Lyon in the winter transfer period of the 2021/22 season. Newcastle then transferred 42 million euros to the French club. Lyon acquired him two years earlier for 20 million euros from Brazilian Club Athletico Paranaense. In France he played 71 matches, scoring 3 times and providing an assist 8 times.

After his transfer to England, Guimarães has quickly emerged as one of Newcastle’s strongholds. The defensive midfielder played a major role in manager Eddie Howe’s team, which finished fourth last season and secured a ticket for the Champions League. So far he has worn the shirt 63 times the Magpies. He found the net 10 times in those matches and was the scorer of a goal 6 times.
