Newcastle United had an absolute dream afternoon on Sunday afternoon. Manager Eddie Howe’s team led 5-0 against Tottenham Hotspur within twenty minutes. In the end, Newcastle took their foot off the accelerator slightly and the game ended 6-1. With this, Tottenham was just spared an equalization of its biggest Premier League defeat of all time. In 1996 it became 7-1, then also against Newcastle. Due to the victory, Howe’s team takes third place from Manchester United for the time being and it seems that it is almost impossible to miss the Champions League qualification. Tottenham seems to have to forget the billion dollar ball.

After 63 seconds it was a hit for Newcastle. Hugo Lloris was unable to clear a Joelinton shot, after which Jacob Murphy was there like the chickens: 1-0. The dream start of the Magpies became a lot nicer after five minutes. This time, Joelinton got away from Pedro Porro, outplayed Lloris and finished off a breeze: 2-0. Newcastle kept pushing and via Murphy’s second of the afternoon it was almost unprecedentedly fast 3-0. Murphy tried his luck from a distance this time and left Lloris without a chance.

In minute eighteen it was already 4-0. A deep ball was just right for Isak: Lloris once again had no chance. The 5-0 also fell from Isak’s foot. This time too, his shot fell into the far corner. After the fifth goal, the pace slowed down a bit, although Sean Longstaff and Joe Willock had opportunities to score the sixth before the break. On the side of Tottenham, Harry Kane became menacing, but a goal before the break for the club’s all-time top goalscorer was not in the cards.

Just under five minutes after the break, it was still a hit for Kane. The striker showed his class by skillfully playing out Newcastle’s defense and finding the far corner: 5-1. However, it was clear that the Londoners no longer stood a chance of a result in Newcastle. The home team was slightly less sharp than in the first half, but regularly set up dangerous attacks.

For example, Dan Burn just failed to find the target. Heung-min Son countered that with a nice dribble, but the South Korean’s shot was blocked just in time by the hosts’ defense. In minute 67 it was hit on the other side. Callum Wilson got the ball with the necessary luck at his feet and gratefully unwrapped the gift: 6-1. After that goal, the offensive intentions of the teams disappeared, although Newcastle was still close to 7-1 a few times. However, that goal would not fall again.
