The question is whether the game in the Serie A between Lazio and Torino will be finished on Monday evening. The team from Turin was hit by a corona outbreak last week and is not allowed to leave the city before midnight by the local health authorities, once the mandatory quarantine is finally over. The situation seems similar to that of the canceled match between Napoli and Juventus in October 2020.

Torino is struggling with personnel problems and saw eight players tested positive for the corona virus last week. This brings the total to ten positively tested players. For that reason, the game with Sassuolo also ended last weekend. No new date has yet been found for that match. In the meantime, Lazio has just announced the match selection for Monday night’s game and it is expected that the team of trainer Simone Inzaghi will appear at the kick-off.

Should Torino be unable to appear at kick-off, Lazio will legally win the match 3-0. That also happened earlier this season at the game between Juventus and Napoli, in which Napoli was forbidden to travel to Turin. At the time, it led to a clash between protocols, because the Italian Football Association prescribes that matches must continue if a club still has at least thirteen players, including one goalkeeper.

The first two attempts by Napoli to challenge the decision of the Lega Serie A and football association FIGC then had no effect, but the move to the Italian Olympic committee CONI turned out to be successful. The highest sports body decided that Napoli should not be penalized for the decision to let go of the top match. The top match in the Italian Serie A is now scheduled for March 17.
