Nani makes a surprising return to the European fields. The 35-year-old Portuguese has signed a contract for a year and a half with Venezia, the number seventeen of the Serie A reports. Nani left Orlando City on the last day of 2021 and could therefore be picked up transfer-free for the Italian PhD student.

Venezia is delighted to welcome Nani and describes the 112-time international as “one of the most talented wingers of his generation, famed for his dribbling skills and spectacular goals”. Nani is best known from his time as a player for Manchester United, where he was under contract between 2007 and 2015. He then had short adventures with Fenerbahçe, Valencia, Lazio and his childhood sweetheart Sporting Portugal.

Three years ago, Nani left Sporting to embark on an adventure in Major League Soccer. In three seasons with Orlando, the winger has scored 28 goals and provided 23 assists in a total of 77 appearances, and was named an MLS All-Star in both 2019 and 2021. Nani will become a teammate of Ridgeciano Haps at Venezia and can make his debut on Sunday, when the club resumes Serie A with a home game against Empoli.
