Julian Nagelsmann will not become the new coach of Bayern Munich. The 36-year-old coach was explicitly linked with a return to… der Rekordmeisterbut has extended his contract as Germany coach until the 2026 World Cup.

Florian Plettenberg van Sky Deutschland reported last Monday that Nagelsmann's return as a trainer was getting closer. The German top club will say goodbye to Thomas Tuchel after this season and is therefore looking for a successor.

Plettenberg wrote that advanced discussions had already taken place, with talk of a three- or four-year contract. “Nagelsmann can imagine a return to Bayern, but has not yet given a definitive green light.”

Christian Falk confirms on behalf of Friday morning BILD that Nagelsmann has indeed had discussions with Bayern, but that he at der Rekordmeister was just one of many candidates. Until recently, there were also doubts within the club management as to whether it made sense to bring Nagelsmann back. The national coach has now decided to extend his contract with the DFB.

Nagelsmann's response

“This is a decision I made with my heart,” Nagelsmann said in a press release. “It is a great honor to coach the national team and work with the best players in the country. With successful, passionate performances we have the opportunity to inspire an entire country.”

“The two victories against France and the Netherlands in March really touched me. We want to play a successful European Championship together in our own country and I am really looking forward to taking on the challenge of a World Cup together with my staff.”
