Barcelona is interested in Roger Riera of NAC Breda, reports BN DeStem. The Catalan superpower would like to see the 25-year-old central defender act for the second team, which is active in the Segunda División B. However, NAC does not intend to let Riera, who was active for years in the youth of Barcelona, go without a fight.

The current frontrunner of the Kitchen Champion Division has shown Barcelona the door after the Spanish top club had expressed its interest in the player. According to the newspaper, the central defender is considered internally as one of the pillars of a team that NAC should bring back to the Eredivisie.

Riera was last year transfer free incorporated by NAC for two seasons with an option for an extra year. Before joining NAC he was active at Villarreal, Celta de Vigo, Nottingham Forest and Barcelona. Riera was part of Barcelona’s youth training from the age of ten until he was nineteen. As captain of the Under-19 of the top club, he captured the first edition of the UEFA Youth League in the 2013/14 season.

Barcelona has proposed to exchange Riera for a promising player with closed scholarships. The leadership of NAC reportedly sees little in such a construction, partly due to the departure of Jan Paul van Hecke. The Pearl of the South wants to see a substantial transfer amount for Riera if Barcelona continues the interest, so it sounds.
