Jose Mourinho dreams of the arrival of Mauro Icardi at AS Roma, headlines la Republica. The Portuguese trainer wants to strengthen the attack line with a top player and the 28-year-old striker of Paris Saint-Germain fits perfectly in the profile. Icardi is open to a switch, but AS Roma must first get rid of Edin Dzeko.

Icardi is not part of Mauricio Pochettino’s plans at PSG and the Parisians could also use a reduction in salary costs. Icardi himself would like to return to Italy after two seasons in France and is willing to hand in salary for this, it sounds like. Icardi would agree with AS Roma with a base salary of eight million euros plus two million euros in variables.

The condition for the possible arrival of Icardi is therefore a departure of Dzeko. However, the 35-year-old Bosnian, who is still in prison for one year, is not keen to leave AS Roma. Nevertheless, the Romans are hopeful that they will be freed from Dzeko’s high salary this summer, and then switch to Icardi. The idea is to hire the Argentinian for one or two seasons with a mandatory option to buy forty million euros. Icardi also screens with interest from Juventus, reported Foot Mercato Friday.

To reduce wage costs, AS Roma tries to get rid of the necessary superfluous players. Cengiz Ünder and Pau López were loaned to Olympique Marseille, while Justin Kluivert is well on his way to a loan spell at OGC Nice. On the buying side, Roma is still busy with Granit Xhaka, who is expected to come over from Arsenal for around 15 million euros.
