Memphis Depay played an important role for Olympique Lyon on Sunday. Partly thanks to three assists from the attacker, Rudi Garcia’s team triumphed 2-3 over RC Strasbourg. The victory is particularly timely les Gones, who had not won after their 4-1 victory over Dijon on August 28 (!). In the five following Ligue 1 games, four draws and a loss followed.

Depay was involved in all of Lyon’s goals before half-time. After twelve minutes, Tino Kadewere received the ball from the Dutchman and fired in, although goalkeeper Bingourou Kamara could apparently have done more: 0-1. Ten minutes later the 0-2 appeared on the scoreboard: after a low cross by Depay from the right, Karl Toko Ekambi scored in the goal mouth for the second goal.

Depay appeared to score the third goal three minutes before the break, but he soloed himself in the penalty area and eventually handed the ball to Ekambi: 0-3. Just before the interruption, record purchase Habib Diallo took the 1-3 from the home team in his debut. An important goal, as Anthony Lopes had no answer to a shot from Jean-Eudes Aholou in the short corner ten minutes after the break: 2-3.

However, Garcia’s team managed to win. Lyon is now in seventh place in the French league with ten points from seven matches. Les Gones will not play in Europe this season and therefore AS Monaco will only be the next opponent in a week’s time.
