Olympique Lyon booked a simple victory in Ligue 1 on Sunday evening. The team of trainer Rudi Garcia ran far away from AS Monaco in the first half, after which the visitors saved the honor with a goal: 4-1. Memphis Depay scored and after his goal expressed support for the heavily injured Virgil van Dijk: Depay showed a shirt with the text ‘Virgil, stay strong my brother’, to encourage his fellow international.

Olympique Lyon opened the score after eleven minutes of play. Tino Kadewere won the ball in his own half and immediately launched an attack over the right flank. The winger found Houssem Aouar, who in turn played Depay in the penalty area. The attacker hit around the penalty spot in the left corner: 1-0. Twenty minutes after the opening goal, the home team doubled the lead. Depay sent Kadewere into the depth with a nice through ball from the turn. On a pass from Kadewere, Karl Toko Ekambi worked the ball in at the first post.

The 3-0 came in the name of Aouar. When Ekam reacted to a heel from Depay and wanted to take the ball, he was pushed to the ground by Djibril Sidibé. The subsequent penalty was used by Aouar in the right corner. Toko Ekambi then made it 4-0 after a defensive misunderstanding at Monaco. In the opening phase of the second half, the visitors came back to 4-1 via a striking penalty kick from Wissam Ben Yedder, after a foul by Sinaly Diomandé on Ruben Aguilar.

In the second half Olympique Lyon did not run into problems. Monaco looked impotent, but the home team did not end the game with eleven men. A minute before time, defender Melvin Bard received a direct red card. Due to a wrongly timed tackle on Aguilar with a high leg raised, he was sent away just before time.
