Memphis Depay officially announced his departure from Olympique Lyon on Sunday evening. Via his club’s Twitter account, the 27-year-old attacker thanks the supporters and the club, who gave him ‘extra strength’ to be decisive. Depay has an expiring contract that he does not want to renew, despite the insistence of chairman Jean-Michel Aulas.

“I speak directly to the supporters,” opens Depay. “I really appreciate what you have given me. Whenever I was in the stadium, you gave me extra strength to be decisive and look for goals and assists. I appreciate the atmosphere in the stadium and that is exactly what the club needs. We have really experienced that we need that atmosphere. I really enjoyed playing for you. ”
