Paris Saint-Germain took a late win against Angers on Friday night. The team of Mauricio Pochettino, which had to do without Neymar and Lionel Messi, among other things, seemed on the way to loss of points, but was helped by a late penalty for Kylian Mbappe: 2-1. Georginio Wijnaldum came in after an hour and headed a ball on the post in the absolute final phase. PSG remain in the lead in Ligue 1 by a large margin; Angers is in fourth place.

Besides Neymar and Messi, the battered PSG also had to miss Ángel Di María, Marquinhos, Keylor Navas and Leandro Paredes because of the South American international matches. Early in the game, Kylian Mbappé, who started on the left wing, aimed for the center of the goal after a good pass from Ander Herrera. Moments later, Mauro Icardi thought he could score from close range, but the striker was put off the ball at the very last moment by a tackle by Pierrick Capelle. Icardi claimed a penalty for contact, but was not heard by the arbitration.

Mbappe was given another chance after half an hour when he was launched by Marco Verratti, but the attacker saw his path blocked by the swiftly emerged Paul Bernardoni. The goalkeeper also made a save a few minutes later on a shot by Colin Dagba. PSG ran into problems in the 36th minute when Verratti lost the ball, who saw Sofiane Boufal launched on the right wing. Angers’ right midfielder crossed the line, after which Angelo Fulgini finished it from close range: 0-1.

Herrera saw a striking header disallowed just before half-time due to offside, meaning PSG started the second half trailing. The Parisians did not play magnificently in this, but they managed to equalize in the 69th minute. A cross from Mbappé from the right was headed in by Danilo: 1-1. Shortly afterwards, Herrera missed a great opportunity by aiming just wide from the edge of the penalty area. However, PSG managed to win via a penalty from Mbappé, which the referee only gave after viewing images on the sidelines. There the arbiter saw that Icardi had headed the ball against Capelle’s hand.
