Kylian Mbappé has waived an astronomical loyalty bonus of sixty to eighty million euros, L’Équipe reports Tuesday morning. The French newspaper suggests that Mbappé’s action is the reason that the French star attacker was allowed to rejoin the selection of coach Luis Enrique. Previously, the 24-year-old world champion had to train separately from the management.

The attacker has been allowed to train again since August. In a statement, Paris Saint-Germain said they came to that choice after “very constructive, positive talks”. Mbappé had previously said he was not interested in signing a new contract and did not raise the option for a one-year extension, after which he was removed from the squad. Because his contract runs until mid-2024, the management wanted him to re-sign or leave.

That is why it came as a surprise to many that the star attacker was back on the training field in August les Parisians. It was speculated that the departures of Lionel Messi to Inter Miami and Neymar to Al-Hilal were linked to Mbappé’s training return, but according to L’Equipe the waiver of the loyalty bonus is therefore the basis for this.

However, the future of the Frenchman remains uncertain. PSG underwent a minor transformation this summer and Mbappé is the undisputed star player in Enrique’s new squad. Nevertheless, the Frenchman is transfer-free after this season, which means that a departure cannot be ruled out. For years, the attacker has been linked with a transfer to his dream club Real Madrid, while Liverpool also showed interest this summer.
