Kylian Mbappe is not interested in a move to Barcelona, Fabrizio Romano knows. In The Here We Go Podcast does the transfer market expert contradict the earlier reporting of L’Equipe that the Paris Saint-Germain attacker would have ears to a transfer to Barca. Real Madrid would still be in pole position to tie the striker and the Royal already has a contract, but nothing is said to have been signed yet.
“The rumors come from L’Equipe, which is usually a reliable source,” says Romano. “But the actual coverage remains unchanged: there are only two options for Mbappé. At the moment, only a longer stay at PSG or a departure to Real Madrid are possible. No other clubs, no other options. Barcelona is not going for Kylian Mbappe and Mbappe is not going for Barcelona.”
The transfer market expert emphasizes that the Madrilenians are currently in the best starting position. “Real Madrid are still in pole position to bring in Mbappe. Hard work is still being done to convince him and a contract has been waiting for him for a long time. But I was told that nothing has been signed between the two parties as of yet. So all options are still open. The coming weeks will be crucial for PSG to win him over. They must keep trying to make him change his mind. Real Madrid thus the main candidate in the battle for Mbappe’s signature; Barcelona is not in the race for Mbappe,” concludes Romano.
Last week reported L’Equipe that Barcelona is making a serious attempt at Mbappe’s mega transfer to Real Madrid. Barça would try to get a foot in the door, according to the French newspaper. After the major sponsor deal with Spotify, the Catalans think they have sufficient resources to recruit Mbappé transfer-free. The attacker would have been open to a conversation with Barca, but that reporting is incorrect according to Romano.
