The Amsterdam mayor Femke Halsema has called Eran Zahavi to express her condolences on behalf of the city in response to the home robbery last Sunday. While the PSV striker was on his way to Tilburg for the match against Willem II, his wife and children were robbed at home in Amsterdam.

“I called the Zahavi family tonight,” Halsema said on Instagram. “They are victims of a brutal and gruesome robbery. Our city should be a safe and pleasant home for internationals like Eran and Mrs. Zahavi and their children. It is horrifying when criminals rob them of this. The police and the judiciary are fully investigating. On behalf of the city I expressed my condolences. ”

The Telegraph described in an extensive reconstruction what happened in the house of the Zahavi family on Sunday. When Shay Zahavi, the wife of the PSV striker, opens the front door on Sunday afternoon, the first robber storms inside. He overpowers the Israeli and then a second robber enters the villa. The three young children are also involved in the robbery. They are taped together with their mother. The robbers are verbally and physically violent. They want to see money and jewelry. If it doesn’t go fast enough they decide to put the scissors in Shay’s hair.

The robbers thought they were completely safe in Zahavi’s villa. “They took their time,” a source told the newspaper. “A burglar takes his chance within minutes because he is afraid of being discovered. These two robbers felt safe in the house and never gave the impression of being in a hurry.” Soon after the invaders collected their loot and left, Zahavi’s wife managed to free herself. The police were quickly on the spot and immediately started a major investigation.
