Ajax has immediately ended its collaboration with Maurice Steijn, the club announced on Monday evening via official channels. The immediate reason for the dismissal of the coach is the lack of sporting results. The final straw for the club management was the disappointing 4-3 defeat against FC Utrecht.

In recent weeks, the calls for the Hagenees’ dismissal have become more and more intense. The record champion is currently in the relegation zone, in seventeenth place, where it still has a match in hand (against FC Volendam) and has yet to finish the match that was abandoned against RKC (2-3 score).

Steijn’s formation has not scored a single three-pointer in the past eight games. Never before has Ajax failed to win so many official matches in a row. Successive matches were against Ludogorets (0-1), Fortuna Sittard (0-0), FC Twente (3-1), Marseille (3-3), Feyenoord (0-4), AEK Athens (1-1), AZ (1-2) and therefore FC Utrecht did not win. In addition, the fielding of the Amsterdam team still leaves a lot to be desired.

Steijn has survived in the capital for more than four months since his appointment on June 14. He is not the first to die in the unprecedentedly heavy weather in which the people of Amsterdam find themselves. Earlier, the collaboration with director of football affairs Sven Mislintat was terminated, after which the chairman of the Supervisory Board (SB) Pier Eringa also drew his conclusions.

In the real administrative transformation, Michael van Praag was nominated as the new chairman of the Supervisory Board, which Leo van Wijk also joined. Louis van Gaal returned to the capital as an advisor to the Supervisory Board. After Mislintat and Eringa, Steijn is the next victim of the crisis at Ajax.
