Lisandro Martínez expects Ajax to cooperate with a transfer to the Premier League, writes The Telegraph† The Argentine defender has asked his club to think along and, according to the morning newspaper, will “slam the fist on the table” if offers around fifty million euros are rejected.

Arsenal and Manchester United are seriously interested in the services of Martínez and have already registered in Amsterdam with 40 and 45 million euros respectively. However, Ajax sold both English superpowers a ‘no’ and that does not sit well with Martínez. The Argentinian has pushed for a move to the Premier League as he sees it as the perfect next step in his career. His hope is that Ajax will soon ask for a ‘realistic amount’.

It would then concern transfer fees that approach fifty million euros. If Ajax would also reject it, the expectation is that Martínez will ‘put his fist on the table’. He would very much like to be reunited with Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford and the coach, who closed the door behind him in Amsterdam last summer and for the challenge at the Mancunians chose, also urges United itself to bring in the Argentinian. It is therefore expected that a switch will eventually take shape.

Martínez came to Ajax in the summer of 2019 and was then taken over from Argentina’s Defensa y Justicia for seven million euros. The team from Amsterdam would therefore be able to earn back a multiple of that amount on the defender who came to 74 league matches and 6 goals for Ajax in the past three seasons. He also earned his debut in the Argentina national team during his employment at the Johan Cruijff Arena.
