Mark Fleks remains faithful to SC Freiburg. The current number two in the Bundesliga officially announces the news about the 29-year-old’s contract extension on Tuesday. Freiburg’s management emphasized in the press statement regarding the new deal for Fleks that details such as the duration of the contract are not being disclosed, as is usual at the German club. It is therefore not known until when the Dutchman is associated with Freiburg.

Technical director Klemens Hartenbach is happy with the continuation of the collaboration with Fleks. “Mark has fought back very well after his injury from two years ago,” emphasizes the Freiburg driver on the club site on Tuesday. “We have a lot of him and it is therefore logical that he has a starting place. Mark is really the prototype of the modern goalkeeper. The ball, whether in front of his feet or in his hands, is always his friend We are thrilled to continue working with him as an athlete and as a person.”

Flek shares Hartenbach’s enthusiasm: “The developments here in Freiburg are very positive for both the team and myself. I feel completely at home here and am very proud of what we have achieved so far as a club. Through hard work I want even more achieve with Freiburg”, according to the very ambitious Fleks, who and his employer are only one point behind leader 1. FC Union Berlin. The current number two is in preparation for Sunday’s away game against number four TSG Hoffenheim.

The four-time international of the Dutch national team has been under contract with Freiburg since mid-2018. Flek started as a reserve goalkeeper in Germany and his status remained unchanged due to a serious elbow injury. Last season he still managed to conquer a place under the bar at Freiburg and now the counter is at sixty games. The 1.95 meter long keeper will hear from national coach Louis van Gaal on Friday whether he has been included in the final selection of the Dutch for the Nations League matches with Poland (September 22) and Belgium (September 25).
