Mario Götze has started his adventure at Eintracht Frankfurt in an excellent way. The attacking midfielder had no direct involvement in the DFB-Pokal match with FC Magdeburg (0-4) in the form of a goal or assist, but was at the basis of the first two goals of the Europa League holder.

The former PSV player already had a smart pass in the fourth minute on Filip Kostic, who withdrew the ball to Daichi Kamada: 0-1. After Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp saved a penalty from Magdeburg, Götze sent Ansgar Knauff away. The young attacker did not score, but in the rebound Jesper Lindstrøm found the net in a clever way. Kamada with his second and Lucas Alario then finished it off for Frankfurt in the second half.

Götze was voted man of the match and his game was reminiscent of the player who previously caused a furore in the Bundesliga. “PSV’s acquisition has already proven to be a key player for Eintracht”, says BILD. Also kicker was impressed with the playmaker. “The world champion did not disappoint. He made a lot of smart passes and was involved in the first two goals.” Sports1 even headlined “Götze as in its best days”.

Trainer Oliver Glasner was opposite ARD, like all newspapers, lyrical. “He was amazing! Mario moved smartly around the pitch, how he gets past an opponent with his first touch of the ball, how he uses our attackers. When spaces get tight in the back, finding the spaces is like art with a big K. And Mario showed that.”

Götze himself was also satisfied with his game. “It’s all in very good shape. Our way of playing gives me freedom, I can be a piece of the puzzle in the system. My time abroad was very good for me, but I’m happy to be back.” A tougher test awaits on Friday for Götze and Frankfurt. Then Bayern Munich comes to visit to open the Bundesliga.
