Besiktas left expensive points in the Süper Lig on Tuesday evening. The team of coach Sergen Yalçin took a 3-0 lead at home against Adana Demirspor, which eventually forced a draw in the seventh minute of extra time: 3-3. A hard blow for Besiktas, which had only conceded the first league goals of the season against Antalyaspor (2-3 win) three days ago.

Besiktas took the lead after twenty minutes of play. After Miralem Pjanic’s cross from the left, it was Francisco Montero who nodded the ball behind goalkeeper Ferhat Kaplan, although his effort was still changed: 1-0. On the stroke of half-time, the controversial 2-0 fell: after a long ball from Josef towards the goal area, Simon Deli gave Michy Batshuayi a shoulder push and then collided with Kaplan, after which the ball bumped into the goal. Ali Palabiyik thought it was a foul by Batshuayi and disallowed the goal, but the VAR did not agree.

Ridvan Yilmaz took the 3-0 a few minutes after the break and so the game seemed to be over, but nothing could be further from the truth. After an hour of play, Matias Vargas nicely aimed the ball from a free kick into the top corner behind goalkeeper Ersin Destanoglu. Mario Balotelli’s 3-2, who came in for Benjamin Stambouli after 67 minutes of play, was also there: the attacker’s shot from about twenty meters disappeared over Destanoglu.

In minute 97, Besiktas’ triple lead disappeared completely: after a corner from the left, it was eventually Britt Assombalonga who headed the ball into the goal from close range. The reigning national champion, who for the time being takes the lead with fourteen points from six matches, will play an away game with Altay SK next Friday and the Champions League game with Ajax will be waiting in exactly one week.
