Luis Suarez single-handedly gave Atlético Madrid three points in La Liga. Diego Simeone’s team won 1-2 against fellow countryman Getafe, thanks to two goals from the attacker, who ran into a red card in the last fifteen minutes and saw a 1-0 lead be turned around. The home team managed to score a goal against the capitals for the first time in twenty games (!), although this was preceded by some snatching from Jan Oblak.
The first half in the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez was intense, but that did not result in many opportunities. The best chance for the visitors was for Suarez, after a misstep by Djené Dakonam after 36 minutes, but David Soria was able to turn his bet from close range. On the stroke of half-time, Jan Oblak made a mistake: first the goalkeeper released a high ball in the penalty area, after which Getafe was able to set up a new attack. Atlético emphatically looked for the 1-1 after the break, but attempts by Antoine Griezmann lacked precision and a header from Suárez in minute 68 ended on the aluminum. Getafe had to continue with ten men fifteen minutes before the end after a foul by Carles Aleña on Matheus Cunha and that was an important moment. Four minutes later, Suárez received a perfect cross from Mario Hermoso and scored diagonally.
Extra time had just started when Suárez also took care of the 1-2. After a high ball from Sime Vrsaljko from the right, the Uruguayan headed the ball behind Soria, who doubted whether he should have come out. With the victory, Atlético spend the night as the leader of LaLiga, with fourteen points from six matches. Real Madrid has one point less and will play at home against Real Mallorca on Wednesday evening.
