The Glazer family is considering selling Manchester United Sky to report. The American owners have been at the head of the English top club for seventeen years, but are about to formally announce their intention to study possible offers. In the seventeen years that the Americans have been in power, the owners have heard frequent protests from supporters.

Cristiano Ronaldo took that a step further last week by stating in an interview with Piers Morgan that ‘they don’t care about the club’. Sky was told on Tuesday that investors would have been instructed by United’s owners to advise them on the sale process. That would most likely be a partial or full sale. It is also possible to enter into a strategic partnership with third parties. A statement from the Glazers is expected soon anyway.

Should manager Erik ten Hag’s club actually be sold, the question would come to an end as to whether the Glazers would be willing to sell a club that has been underperforming for years. The last title dates back to 2013, when Sir Alex Ferguson was still at the helm. After his retirement, Louis van Gaal and José Mourinho, among others, were at the helm, but an English national title or Champions League success was no longer possible. Fight under Ten Hag the Mancunians currently for a place in the top four, which entitles them to participate in the Champions League at the end of the season.

The news of United’s possible sale comes shortly after the club’s and Ronaldo’s split. The Portuguese was particularly critical of his now former employer in his much-discussed interview and did not leave the Glazers unmoved. Like the Portuguese, United’s supporters are certainly not fans of the owners. That sentiment already started with the takeover of the club. The acquisition price was set at 790 million pounds, but the Glazers themselves invested 270 million pounds. The rest of the money was borrowed, leaving United with an additional debt of more than £500 million.
