Ederson’s future clearly lies with Manchester City. The 28-year-old goalkeeper signed a contract until the summer of 2026 on Wednesday. The Citizens paid forty million euros in 2017 for Ederson, who is now on 195 games in the team of manager Josep Guardiola. After Kevin De Bruyne, Fernandinho, John Stones and Ruben Dias, he is the fifth player to opt for a new contract with Manchester City in 2021.

Ederson managed to keep ‘zero’ no less than 94 times in his 195 duels in the shirt of Manchester City. His old contract continued until the end of the 2024/25 season. “This was a very important decision for me,” said Ederson on Wednesday after signing the contracts at the Etihad Stadium. “I wouldn’t want to play for any other club. To be part of one of the best rosters in the world and to compete in the awards year after year is what every footballer desires. And that opportunity is given to me here at Manchester City.”

“We also have a great manager and working with him has been one of the most amazing experiences of my career,” Ederson complimented Guardiola. “Under him I have definitely become a better player. I have achieved so much in the last four seasons and I am convinced that we will bring even more success to the club.” Ederson’s enthusiasm is shared by Technical Director Txiki Begiristain.

“Ederson is one of the best goalkeepers in the world. He fits perfectly with the philosophy of Manchester City and with his footballing qualities, Ederson has a fundamental part in the way of playing. Since his arrival, he has added a new dimension to our game, while also revolutionizing the Premier League in goalkeeping. His performance over the past four years has been exceptionally good,” said Manchester City’s chief technical officer.
