Manchester City manager PEP Guardiola has given honest criticism after his team’s shock exit from the Champions League.

French club Lyon beat City 3-1 in Lisbon on Saturday.

City paid for mistakes and failures in front of the goal cage in a match in which the VAR once again played a major role.

It looked as if Moussa Dembele had fouled for Aymeric Laporte in the run-up to Lyon’s second goal.

After consulting the VAR, the ref awarded the goal.

Fall
Raheem Sterling then missed a gaping goal cage over a short distance.

Dembele then scored his second goal after Ederson dropped a save.

Guardiola gave an honest assessment of his team’s game after another failure in the Champions League and said mistakes cost them dearly.

“One day we will break through this gap,” he told BT Sport.

“The second half was okay. I feel we were better then, but in this competition you have to be perfect.

“One day we will cross this bridge. We made mistakes in both halves at important moments and that’s why we’re out.

Third
“We scored a great goal, but unfortunately we missed another one.”

This is now the third consecutive season that City have stumbled over the Champions League quarter-final hurdles.
