Manchester City are expressly interested in the services of Raphaël Guerreiro. That reports Sky Sports Wednesday. The Portuguese international is a candidate to become the new left-back there. The 28-year-old Guerreiro has a contract in Germany until the summer of 2023.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has been looking for a new left-back for a while, but has so far proved unhappy. After the departure of Oleksandr Zinchenko to Arsenal, Marc Cucurella was the intended reinforcement for a long time, but the Spaniard found shelter with competitor Chelsea. The London club pays a maximum of 63 million pounds for the former Getafe player, converted around 74.5 million euros. That amount was too much for Manchester City.

Youth player Josh Wilson-Esbrand will remain with the A-selection as long as Man City has not attracted a replacement and the Dutch international Nathan Aké can also work at the back position in an emergency, which was one of the reasons that the Citizens did not let him leave for Chelsea earlier this summer. In addition to Guerreiro, Sergio Gómez van Anderlecht is also in the interest of the blue club from Manchester.

Gómez’s arrival, however, is separate from Guerreiro’s, as the Portuguese is considered a heavyweight in that position. Gómez would most likely be loaned out after his eventual arrival at Manchester. Manchester City has brought in several reinforcements including Erling Haaland, Julian Álvarez and Kalvin Philips, although reinforcement for the defense and especially the left back position remains top priority for the time being.
