Manchester City seem to have a lot of confidence in Ruben Dias. The reigning champions, who were still 5-0 too strong for Arsenal on Saturday, announced on Monday that the Portuguese centre-back has extended his contract at the Etihad Stadium until mid-2027. Días’s old contract with Manchester City lasted until the summer of 2026.

Días was acquired by Manchester City from Benfica last September for €68 million and in his first season in the Premier League, the mandekker became a fixture for manager Pep Guardiola. The multi-million acquisition came to fifty matches in all competitions on behalf of the Citizens. Días won the league title and EFL Cup with Manchester City and reached the final of the Champions League. In the final battle, however, Chelsea proved too strong with 0-1.

“I am very happy with the new contract,” said Días, who was named Player of the Year in the Premier League last year. In addition, the Portuguese was recently voted the best defender in last season’s Champions League. “I’ve loved every minute since coming to Manchester City. Coming to this club has exceeded all my expectations and it’s really great to be part of this great squad.”

“I want Pep (Guardiola, ed.) I would like to thank the technical staff for their help in my development and for constantly challenging me,” continues Días, explaining after signing the signatures. “What we have as a selection last season achievement is truly incredible and it has only increased the hunger for success. I definitely want to contribute to that in the coming years.”
