Quinten Timber is simply fit, his management confirms Ziggo Sports-program Rondo. On Monday evening, the KNVB reported that Frenkie de Jong will not travel to the European Championships in Germany next summer. Quinten Timber was quickly mentioned as a potential replacement, but national coach Ronald Koeman said after the friendly match against Iceland (4-0) that the Feyenoord midfielder is not fit.

De Jong, who has been struggling with an ankle injury for a long time, still has too much trouble with his ankle to play during the prestigious final tournament. It is a hard blow for Koeman. The Dutch selector called up Ian Maatsen as a replacement.

According to the national coach, Quinten Timber was not an option. “I have something in mind, but I will communicate that internally first. Timber? No, that's not Quinten Timber. He is not fit and is not on standby.” The European Championship also comes too early for Feyenoord colleague Mats Wieffer. “No, he's not fit.”

According to Timber's management, the Dutch international is certainly capable of playing at the European Championship. “Quinten Timber is fit by the way,” said Rondopresenter Wytse van der Goot on Monday evening. “We just heard that from his management. We have just heard from his management that he is currently in full training and that there has already been a lot of contact with the Dutch team in recent days. A decision will be made on this in the short term.”

Timber was indeed back on the training field at Feyenoord on Monday. The single international of the Dutch team braved the rain and completed an individual session with Tim Janssen, a physiotherapist from the Rotterdam club.

It is no secret that Timber is working hard in the background on his rehabilitation, as he shared a photo from the 1908 training complex on Monday afternoon.

De Telegraaf reports a different story

At the end of Monday morning Mike Verweij comes on behalf The Telegraph with a different reading. According to the Amsterdam morning newspaper, Koeman called Timber to ask whether the Feyenoord player is fit, after which the midfielder himself reportedly replied negatively.
