Nicolai Jörgensen will not continue his career at FC Copenhagen. The 31-year-old striker has been told by the club management that his contract with the Danish top club will not be extended. Jörgensen came over from Kasimpasa last winter. Just like the Danes, the Turks knew enough after half a season and waved off the striker. It is not known where the ex-Feyenoord player will continue his career.

Jörgensen played nine matches for FC Copenhagen and managed to score one goal. It was his second period for the club, as the attack leader also played for the Danes from 2012 to 2016. “I love FC Copenhagen and it will always be my club in Denmark,” said Jörgensen on the site of the reigning national championship of the Danish Superliga. “It’s no secret that I wanted to stay here longer. That’s why I tried so hard to come here last winter. I wanted to experience the fight for the championship again and I have no regrets at all that I made the step here.”

Before leaving for Turkey, Jörgensen played for Feyenoord for a long time. The Dane immediately became a crowd favorite in De Kuip, partly due to his large share in the championship of 2017. That season, the striker became the top scorer in the Eredivisie with 21 goals. Not long after, Newcastle United wanted to pay no less than 17 million euros for Jörgensen, but Feyenoord turned down the offer. In the end, Jörgensen played 151 games in Rotterdam, scoring 58 times. After his departure from Feyenoord, Jörgensen went to Kasimpasa. Here he scored two goals in fifteen games in the Süper Lig.

He does not yet know where the 39-time Danish international will play football after his departure from Copenhagen. “I have some great offers from clubs that I will now consider with my family. In any case, I wish everyone at Copenhagen all the best for the future and I look forward to following the club in the coming seasons,” concludes Jörgensen in his statement on the site of his (now former) club.
