Borussia Dortmund booked an important victory in the Bundesliga on Saturday evening. The team of trainer Edin Terzic kept hanging and strangling and eventually won 1-2 on a visit to Eintracht Frankfurt thanks to hits from Julian Brandt and Jude Bellingham. Donyell Malen managed to distinguish himself in a positive way with an assist with the opening goal. With the win, Dortmund overtakes Frankfurt and is three points behind leader Bayern Munich.

Thanks to a 0-0 draw against Manchester City, Dortmund secured second place in Group G of the Champions League on Tuesday evening and thus of wintering in the billion-dollar ball. Compared to this game, Terzic made two changes to his starting eleven. Malen and Salih Özcan started against Frankfurt from the first whistle, at the expense of Emre Can and Giovanni Reyna. The confrontation with BVB was especially special for Mario Götze. The attacking midfielder has won the national championship twice in the past with the visiting team.

The battle was mainly fought in midfield in the first twenty minutes, so that serious opportunities were scarce. Then, however, the game erupted in a few minutes. Brandt was found by Malen in the sixteen meter area. The attacking midfielder was able to take on and passed Kevin Trapp with a dry shot through the legs: 0-1. Dortmund could not enjoy the lead for long, because Kamada immediately brought the home team alongside with a diagonal slide from about twenty meters: 1-1.

On the stroke of half-time, Randal Kolo Muani thought he would give Frankfurt the lead, but after a precarious moment, the score still remained on the scoreboard. The striker gave goalkeeper Gregor Kobel a lob. Kolo Muani then saw his effort return to the inside of the post, after which Jesper Lindström failed to promote the rebound to a goal from close range. Although this was partly due to a showy and unpunished push from Karim Adeyemi. The game also rippled in the second act and this quickly resulted in Jude Bellingham’s 1-2. The midfielder was found by Youssoufa Moukoko and then remained cool face to face with Trapp.

Dortmund already experienced a precarious moment before half-time and also swung several times in the second half. Nico Schlotterbeck narrowly saved a Götze effort from the line and Kobel had to distinguish himself with a great save when the defender made a mistake a few seconds later. With some luck, Dortmund’s closing post also managed to parry a goal by Kolo Muani with his feet.
