Paolo Maldini has spoken out about AC Milan’s alleged interest in Sven Botman. The director of the Milanese goes in front of the camera from DAZN to a question about the state of affairs regarding the center defender of Lille OSC, after which he labels the Dutchman as ‘a very good player’. At the end of the past calendar year, among other things, La Gazzetta dello Sport Botman more emphatically in connection with a switch to i Rossoneric.

In conversation with DAZN indicates Maldini is looking for a ‘solution’ to make it to the end of the season. The team of trainer Stefano Pioli is ravaged by positive corona tests and injuries, and reinforcements are needed in particular in the defense. In the Serie A match against AS Roma, Pioli can only use four of the nine defenders in the selection. “Is that a problem? Yes, of course. Do we let that get us off the ground? No,” says Maldini.

“We don’t feel like a victim, the situation is simply as it is. Unfortunately, the financial situation is also not comparable to the era of Sylvio Berlusconi, who was able to snare the best players in the world. This Milan should be financially stable, so don’t expect miracles. And Botman? Botman is a very good player. However, he plays at Lille and is under contract there until 2024. He is of course not the only good defender, but with Simon Kjaer’s injury we really need someone. Whether it’s on a rental basis for the next six months or a long-term purchase, we’ll see later,” said Maldini.

Botman has long been associated with Milan, which has been eliminated from the Champions League and is fully focused on the battle for the league title. However, the question is whether Lille is willing to let the defender go. Last Monday, Lille swept off a bid from Newcastle United for Botman. Newcastle United were willing to pay €35 million for the 21-year-old centre-back, but that was not enough to convince the reigning French champions. Lille would prefer to keep Botman at least until the summer.
