Excelsior will play with the name of the Ambulance Wish Foundation on the shirt in the upcoming season. This is again made possible by main sponsor DSW Zorgverzekeraar. Since 2017, DSW has donated the space on the club’s shirt to charities. When the Ambulance Wish Foundation returns to the Eredivisie, it will be the turn of the Ambulance Wish Foundation for a season. The foundation is committed to fulfilling the last wishes of immobile terminal patients thanks to specially developed ambulances.

In previous seasons, the names of the Esther Vergeer Foundation, Spieren voor Spieren and Support Casper could be found on the shirts of Excelsior. Excelsior writes on the club website that it is very happy with the willingness from the main sponsor. ”As a club, we are very proud that we have a partner in DSW Zorgverzekeraar who, like us, has both feet in society and has an eye for the world around him. It is a very nice gesture that DSW Zorgverzekeraar is making the space on our shirt available to a good cause. This collaboration is a good example where the social and commercial aspects go hand in hand. A model that we firmly believe in towards the future.”

Kees Veldboer junior, the director of the Ambulance Wish Foundation, explains why his father founded the foundation fifteen years ago. “As an ambulance driver, he discovered that sometimes you can mean a lot for seriously ill people with a very small gesture. The foundation now has 270 volunteers who are committed to fulfilling the wishes of seriously ill people.

Veldboer junior’s father passed away suddenly last year. Nevertheless, his son is sure that he is proud of Excelsior’s decision and the choice for the Ambulance Wish Foundation. “My father was a football fan and a Rotterdammer, so I’m sure he would have enjoyed our foundation on Excelsior’s shirts. Although many companies come to us every day that want to do something, there are still many people who do not know what we do and what is possible. That is why the most important thing about this collaboration is brand awareness and showing what we can do.”
