The 5-1 win over Celtic of Real Madrid gave success coach Carlo Ancelotti a record. Not one trainer in his career recorded more victories in the billion-dollar ball than the Italian: 103. Thanks to the victory, he passed record holder Alex Ferguson, who has won 102 to date. This is followed by Josep Guardiola (96), Arsene Wenger (86) and José Mourinho (81).

Wednesday night’s win saw the Madrilenians win Group F and see Ancelotti take over the record from Ferguson. A small caveat should be made, as one of Ancelotti’s 103 wins was a regulation win. On April 12, 2005, the Derby della Madonnina in the quarterfinals of the Champions League. The match was definitively stopped at a 0-1 score and converted into a regulation 0-3 win for AC Milan. Inter fans threw fireworks onto the pitch and continued to do so even after the game had been halted for ten minutes earlier.

Thanks to the win in the last group match, it was a special evening for trainer Ancelotti. It was a less pleasant performance for Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema. As in the previous group matches, the Frenchman failed to score. A unique event, because it was the first time since the group stage of 2004/05 that he did not find the net. In Group F, he has made four appearances so far, twice against Shakhtar Donetsk and twice against Celtic.

After that victory over the Scots, Ancelotti was honored by his club. Since the summer of 2021 he has once again been employed by The Royal and last season he won both the national championship and the Champions League. Ancelotti is the first coach to become champion in the five major European football competitions (Italy, England, France, Germany and Spain).
