Liverpool took a giant step towards the quarter-finals of the Champions League on Wednesday. Jürgen Klopp’s men turned out to be daring at Internazionale, but managed to strike twice in the final phase of the match: 0-2. Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah brought in the win.

The well-known names appeared on the side of Inter, including Denzel Dumfries and Stefan de Vrij. The only change in the team was forced: the suspended Nicolò Barella was replaced by Nicolò Barella. At Liverpool it was noticed that Harvey Elliott was preferred over Jordan Henderson. Virgil van Dijk played centrally in the back next to Ibrahima Konaté, who kept Joël Matip out of the starting line.

Inter and Liverpool kept each other in balance for a long time and gave few opportunities away. Sadio Mane had the best chance for the English from the first half in the opening phase. However, the attacker sent his header just over the far corner. The Senegalese then also tried with two bicycle kicks. Inter themselves came closest to the opening goal via Hakan Calhanoglu, who fired at the crossbar from an almost impossible angle.

The opening phase of the second half was for Inter, who were able to keep Liverpool under reasonable pressure for twenty minutes. Dzeko even scored after a launch pass from Dumfries, but turned out to have been offside. After more than an hour of play, Liverpool substitute Luis Díaz saw his threatening attempt blocked at the last minute by Milan Skriniar.

Scored fifteen minutes before time the Reds via Roberto Firmino, who dropped Andy Robertson’s corner kick wonderfully on the head: 0-1. It got even better for Liverpool, who scored 0-2 seven minutes before the end via Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian reacted alertly and shot hard after Van Dijk had put the ball back with his head.
