Real Madrid will not renew Marco Asensio’s contract, reports Cadena COPE Monday night. The Royal The 26-year-old attacker has announced that he will not receive an offer to upgrade his contract, which runs until 2023. Assensio is in the interest of Liverpool and AC Milan, among others, and can still yield a transfer fee if he leaves this summer.

Asensio seemed to be able to count on more playing minutes next season, with Mbappe’s transfer failing. However, the winger has been told by the club that he can look for a new employer. AC Milan and Liverpool would be the two main candidates for taking over Asensio. Both clubs have indicated to Real Madrid that they are interested in the attacker, according to the Spanish radio station.

The Spanish international already indicated earlier this month that he was looking for more playing time. “I would like to have more continuity and certainty in my playing rhythm,” Asensio told a press conference at the Spanish national team. “Playing matches for a whole season is something that will be very important to me in the coming years. This year I had that for a while at Real Madrid, but I’m looking for something where I have that for a season.”

Asensio has been under contract with Real Madrid since 2015. The club from the capital took him over for just under four million euros from RCD Mallorca, where he played in the youth academy. Asensio made 42 games in all competitions last season, in which he managed to find the net 12 times. In total, the left leg played 235 matches for Real Madrid. The attacker has played 29 international matches for Spain so far.
