Liverpool and Juventus are closely monitoring Mason Mount’s contract situation, it has been reported The Guardian. The 23-year-old Chelsea midfielder will be out of his contract at Stamford Bridge in mid-2024, but is it with the Blues have not yet agreed on a new contract. Negotiations have now ended so that Mount can focus on the World Cup with England.

Talks between the ex-Vitessenaar and Chelsea started last summer, but an agreement has not yet been reached. The owner of the Londoners, Todd Boehly, wants to keep Mount for the club at all costs. The American sees a future captain in the midfielder and continues to hope for a positive outcome of the negotiations. Boehly would like to reward the performance of the 32-time England international with a renewed contract.

However, there is a chance that club and player will not come to an agreement with regard to a new commitment. Mount is said to be one of the lowest earning players in the squad at the moment and wants his new salary to match his current status at the club. Chelsea’s initial offers fell well short of his expectations. Liverpool and Juventus are said to be closely monitoring the situation in the meantime. Manchester City was also previously linked to Mount.

The Guardian expects the interest of Europe’s top clubs to speed up the negotiations between Chelsea and Mount. The English lost Antonio Rüdiger and Andreas Christensen on a free transfer to Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively last summer and Boehly does not want that to happen again. Thiago Silva, N’Golo Kanté and Jorginho are out of contract at the end of this season.
